Is Mike Vick’s Season Over?

The whole city of Philadelphia held its collective breath Sunday night as their franchise quarterback, Mike Vick, lay motionless on the field late in the third quarter in a game against the Atlanta Falcons.
He suffered a concussion when he was thrown into one of his own teammates as he was being tackled. As Vick was escorted off the field he was spitting up blood, but as it turns out he just bit his tongue.
That was the only bit of good news Eagles fans would get.
The Eagles were leading the Falcons when Vick left, but they would wind up losing the game as the Falcons scored a last minute touchdown to win.
But the Eagles may be facing an even bigger loss if Vick has to miss a few weeks, or even misses the entire season. This concussion will probably not spell the end of Vick’s season, but it should raise some concerns. Once you have one concussion, you are more susceptible to have another one. Multiple concussions could definitely end Vick’s season early.

The NFL takes concussions seriously now.
They have a whole procedure in place to deal with them and it will take a few days and a battery of tests before Vick could be cleared for this Sunday. And he has to be cleared by a doctor. It might be best if the Eagles err on the side of caution and sit Vick down for this week’s game. Their whole season may depend on it.
After the Eagles loaded up with superstar players during the off-season they became a favorite to win the Super Bowl. The media and fans were referring to them as the Dream Team. Nothing less than a championship will do. So they have to think long term and Vick cannot afford another concussion. There was already a lot of concern for Vick’s health after he took a lot hits during the Eagles’ Week 1 game against the St. Louis Rams. If Philly wants to even reach the Super Bowl they must have a healthy Mike Vick leading them. And they have to protect him.
The Eagles have Vince Young as backup but he has been sidelined with a hamstring injury so they may have to start Mike Kafka against New York Giants. If Young is healthy the Eagles should be okay for a week or two without Vick. And Kafka played well in Sunday’s game.
Mike Vick has come a long way since his release from prison. He has really turned his life around and has gained many fans across the country. He has been an inspiration to a lot of people.  He’s a true fighter. It would be a shame to see his season, and even his career, cut short by injury. But if anybody can come back from this it is certainly Mike Vick.
